Ampleforth College founded by the Benedictine monks of Ampleforth Abbey.

1814

First Exhibition held at the College.

1909

The College’s Theatre was built – it is now known to be the oldest school Theatre in the UK.

1916

The Abbey acquired Gilling Castle and opened it as Ampleforth College Junior School.

1926

St Aidan’s, St Bede’s, St Cuthbert’s and St Oswald’s Houses were founded.

Junior House & St Wilfrid’s House were founded.
