Fees

Our fees for the 2024/25 academic year were set at £15,580 per term for boarders (£11,110 for Junior House boarders) and £10,840 for day students (£7,210 for Junior House day students). In the Budget on Wednesday 30 October 2024, the Government announced that 20% VAT would be applied to independent school fees from 1 January 2025. In response, from 1 January 2025, the College will apply VAT to fees which have been discounted as follows:

Armed Forces & Diplomatic Service Personnel

A 20% discount is offered to the children of HM Armed forces and HM Diplomatic Service who are in receipt of the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA). This is not in addition to the sibling discounts listed. Means-tested bursary assistance may also be available dependent upon individual circumstances. Please click here for more details.

Extras

The College tries to keep the cost of extras to a minimum and we make as many of them as possible optional. As a rule of thumb you might expect to pay £1,000- £1,500 a year in extras.

However, please be aware that certain extras may increase this balance further such as the cost of EAL in the Sixth Form and music lessons as described below. Escort by matrons to medical and dentist appointments can also add up, as can the entrance fees to public examinations. Optional trips abroad and some activities will also increase the charges.

Where possible you will be warned whenever significant extra charges are likely to be made.

Notice for parents and guardians re "phishing" emails

Please note that there are sometimes attempts to defraud parents of pupils at independent schools through “phishing” emails which may offer an “early bird” discount and ask for fees to be paid into fraudulent bank accounts. If you receive any email which appears to come from Ampleforth but which raises concerns, before making any payment please check with our Finance Department on fees@ampleforth.org.uk or 01439 766869. We are always happy to confirm our bank details before you make any transfer of funds.

Payment of Fees & Deposits

Our preferred method for payment of fees is by direct debit payable from a UK bank.

If direct debit is not possible, payment should be made by bank transfer, by cheque, or by debit/credit card. Please note we do not accept American Express.

  • Please ensure that your name, the student’s name and a reference e.g. school feesregistration fee or confirmation fee are clearly shown on all transfers.
  • The Registration Fee is non-refundable. The Confirmation Fee is refundable at the end of the student's course.
  • Cheques should be made payable to St Laurence Education Trust and sent to Finance.

Parents NOT using a UK Bank Account

Payments can be made by International Bank Transfer drawn in sterling with all bank charges including those of the receiving bank borne by the sender credited to our bank, details can be obtained from the Fees Officer: Tel: +44 (0) 1439 766869 or fees@ampleforth.org.uk

If possible, you should not pay by means of a personal cheque drawn on a non-UK bank. This will cause delay and will reduce the amount of your payment because of the high bank charges that will be incurred.
