Raft Race

It’s been a fun and energetic start to the Michaelmas term.
22 September 2023

It’s been a fun and energetic start to the Michaelmas term with the Raft Race rounding off our inter-House events to date – that was certainly an experience to remember and congratulations go to St John’s with the fastest time, closely followed by St Cuthbert’s & St Thomas’, and St Margaret’s taking home third place. Saturday saw us host our biggest Open Morning yet, which was an uplifting event embracing the wonderful sense of Ampleforth hospitality. Families were full of praise for our pupil tour guides who did us - and you - proud. It was a busy weekend of sport in the Valley too with an impressive two wins for our Junior House U13 girls hockey team against Giggleswick and Terrington, the boys 1st and 2nd rugby teams were victorious over Pocklington and the 1st XI and 2nd XI girls hockey teams took a draw and a win over Giggleswick respectively giving them an undefeated season so far – keep up the good work!

At Assembly this week, Helen Pepper, Assistant Head Teaching and Learning, spoke about Benedictine Scholarship and what this means. Following the Benedictine tradition of learning, we want our pupils to develop good study habits, have intellectual curiosity, critically engage with the world around them, and develop a lifelong love of learning. Benedictine scholarship is inclusive, something all of our pupils can embrace. It is about being the very best version of yourself, sharing in a common good together in the classroom, and flourishing.

I hope you all enjoy a peaceful exeat weekend and I look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed next week.

Best wishes,Peter
